Most Romantic Thing Ever

A lifetime ago we sat under the African sky. It was dusk as wildebeest, lion, giraffe, springbok and elephants meandered towards the watering hole. They moved to the rhythm of African time.

Animals came in herds to refresh themselves after a day of foraging on the harsh baked plains. Springbok scanned the vista their ears pricked for danger. Satisfied the pride of lion were absorbed with the cubs they settled to drink deep. The wildebeest stamped and bellowed. The giraffe swayed towards the water’s edge, splayed their long legs and lowered their necks to drink.

We could hear their animal breaths and the hot snorts of the wildebeest as they slurped up the sparkling liquid. With the Kombi van door slid open, we sat cross-legged and watched the nightly ritual.

“Happy birthday, Robs!”
