2015 Blog Reflection

At the beginning of last year I came up with a you beaut Blog Plan for 2015.  As we’re a week shy of February I thought I’d take a look at the gaps between the plan and what really happened.

Between a memoir post on Mondays, something work-related on Wednesdays and a Sunday post in response to a weekly challenge (Share Your World) there would have been 156 posts for the year – if I had been true to the plan.  On average the memoir and work pieces were posted fortnightly and fifteen Share Your World posts through the year.  It was a lot harder to pull off that kind of commitment although I did learn a few things during the year.

The gap between the plan and reality was rather large because some invitations to join blogging challenges were too good to pass up.  Instead of maintaining focus, I relished the rampage through the alphabet in April as I participated in the A – Z Challenge with thousands of other self-torturing enthusiasts.  I tried to pick up the threads of the plan in May and wobbled along until the fortnight of August Moon and finally the National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) in November.  Between the plan, the challenges and participating in the WordPress weekly photo blog, 180 posts went up in 2015, pushing the six year total over 600 since I began the journey (25 January 2010).

Apparently I’m a sprinter rather than a marathon blogger which means the plan this year is there is no plan.  Monday Memoir happened in a push to get life stories written, self-printed and bound for each of my children.  That didn’t happen in 2015 therefore I must push on through this year and to that end I need to allow those to take a more central role on the blog.

The question is can I do this year what I failed to do last year?  Will this be the year my memoir is completed?

How about you, do you have a writing goal for this year?

  1. For some reason, I stopped getting notification of your blog and dropped out of sight. But I’m back, happy to find myself reading your posts again, and glad to learn that things seem to be going well for you. I decided on, and announced, my 2016 writing goal in November: to only publish on the 1st and 15th of every month rather than every Tuesday. I want to spend more time learning to write poetry, trying to write fiction, and perhaps putting together another book. At the end of the year, I’ll let you know how I did with all that. So far, I’ve worked on poetry but not fiction or a book plan. Oh well, there are still 11 months left!

  2. You did well, Linda. I suppose you need to focus on what is most important to you if you want to get those done. It’s fun to get distracted by other challenges, but they can become too much. At least that’s my experience.
My goal this year is to get my second novel finished. I had planned that for 2015, but fell down on the job for various reasons. This year I want to make a better effort with that, as well as continuing with the Monday memoir. I am about to register with this year’s A-Z April Blogging Challenge, but I don’t know if I’ll get the posts done in time..

  3. My blog started as a replacement for an email newsletter, and began in 2013 with a tribute to a wild feral cat I had come to know. I guess I have no plan other than just report once a month what I observe going on about the farm, the animals and my music. I was new to blogging, and did not know what to expect, but I am pleased to be part of a wonderful community of people from around the world. We are all different, in so many ways, and I cherish that in each and every one of you. My only goal is to keep calling it the way I see it, and continue to grow in the process.

    • It is a good community, isn’t it to and once we get passed the initial stage fright. I like that each of us brings a different facet to the on-line experience. It’s what keeps me hooked and wanting to continue to be a part of it. 🙂 Linda
