When warm Spring days end with the last rays of sunlight scattering off the atmosphere to paint a sunset as it did tonight, it makes it my favourite time of the day. It reminded me of the folk lore: red skies at morning a sailor’s warning, red skies at night a sailor’s delight.
My next thoughts were of bush fires and the increased risks as another hot and windy summer approaches. All states are now on bush fire alert, the season started 1 October, and predictions of economic costs of this summer’s fires are in the region of $43 million. For now I will appreciate the sunset and enjoy simply being.
However, a good scout is always prepared and the only defence against bush fires that render us powerless. In spite of where my thoughts ended, the sunset brought to a close a great four day weekend.
